There's a strange energy around Path of Exile 2 at the minute. Every time you log in, it feels like something has shifted, whether that's a new balance pass, a fresh mechanic, or the way people are suddenly talking about farming poe2 gold like it's become part of the daily routine. That's the thing with early access: the game isn't settled, and neither is the player base. One week everyone's testing ideas and having a laugh with rough builds. The next, the meta gets turned on its head and half the community is back at the drawing board. Messy? Yeah. Boring? Not even close.
A class that actually changes how you playThe Druid has been the clearest sign yet that the sequel wants to do more than just repeat old habits. On paper, elemental casting mixed with shapeshifting sounds cool. In practice, it's even better, because it asks you to think on the fly. You're not just standing back and rotating skills. You're swapping rhythm mid-fight, reading space, deciding when to lean into spell damage and when to go full beast mode. It feels active. A bit scrappy at times, sure, but in a good way. You quickly notice that build variety starts opening up once a class isn't locked into one obvious identity.
The skill ceiling is a big part of the appealThat's also why the challenge-run crowd has been having such a field day. People aren't just beating hard bosses. They're doing it with self-imposed limits that sound ridiculous until you watch the clip and realise, somehow, it works. No standard gear setups. No consumables. Sometimes barely any margin for error. It says a lot about the underlying systems. PoE2 still has that same obsession with interaction, timing, and build planning that long-time ARPG players love. If you're the kind of player who enjoys digging into mechanics and tweaking one decision at a time, there's loads here to get lost in.
Where the frustration kicks inStill, not every complaint is just people moaning for the sake of it. The drop in review scores makes sense when you look at what's been annoying players lately. Mid-cycle balance changes can feel rough, especially if you've already poured hours into a build and suddenly it doesn't hit the same. Performance has been another sore spot. Town hubs can stutter badly, and big fights don't always feel as smooth as they should. That sort of thing wears people down. You can put up with balance swings if the game runs well. When both are off at once, patience starts to disappear pretty fast.
Why players keep coming back anywayEven with all that, PoE2 has that pull. You can feel it. The game keeps asking players to adjust, test ideas, and rethink what progress even looks like from one patch to the next. That constant movement is frustrating some days, but it also makes the whole thing feel alive in a way polished releases often don't. There's always another class update to watch, another weird build to try, another economy shift to react to, and for players who like tracking the wider scene, services such as U4GM naturally come up in conversation when people are looking at currency and item support around a changing game. For all its rough edges, this still feels like a sequel willing to take risks, and that's a big reason people haven't stopped paying attention.
